There are various reasons why people want pictures or videos from social networks. Maybe they want to share it with their friends or save it to watch later. However, most social media applications make it difficult to procure those items. For example, Facebook and Instagram don’t let you download video content. Instagram doesn’t let you save pictures you like. There are many social networks and many social media downloaders out there. We think we found the best so let’s check it out.

The list includes apps that save pictures and videos from Instagram, videos from Facebook, GIFs and videos from Twitter, and videos from TikTok. We may add apps for other social networks in future updates so leave a comment and let us know what you would like to see here.

All in One Video Downloader allows you to download videos from multiple platforms. It supports Facebook, Instagram and Twitter. You just get the share link from the app, open this app and paste the link into the app to get the video. The app also includes a video player to watch videos or you can use your device’s video player if you prefer. It works most of the time, but some people may have intermittent issues here and there getting something to download, especially if they use it frequently for a short period of time. It has ad support with no premium version so be prepared for ads.

ETM Video Downloader

Price: Free

ETM Video Downloader is a developer on Google Play with several social media downloader apps. There is one for Instagram, Facebook and TikTok. The app is ok. There are tons of ads and that can definitely make the experience a lot worse than it needs to be. However, all three apps were actually downloading content from those social media sites when we tested them. This is not our first choice and we think the developers should make a premium version ad-free. However, if you only need a photo or two and intend to ditch the app afterwards, this will work. The buttons below link to the developer’s page so you can choose the one you want.

FastSave for Instagram

FastSave for Instagram is one of the best social media downloader especially for Instagram. It works with photo and video content. You can also save regular photos and videos along with Stories. The app also includes a dashboard to manage everything, a viewer to see your saved stuff, and a secret locker to hide your special photos and videos. It even has a batch save function. Some people have reported that the actual save function is a bit buggy on some devices, but it worked well enough for us. This app is free with ads.

FastVid

Price: Free / $1.99

FastVid is a dedicated video downloader for Facebook. You just share the video link to the app and do the rest. This one is great because you don’t need to be logged in or even interact with Facebook except to get the video share link. Like most, you can find, save and watch videos from the app. There’s also a built-in browser if you don’t want to use the official Facebook app. Some of the features are a bit buggy, but the actual download function seems to work fine.

InShot Video Downloader

Price: Free / $11.99

InShot Video Downloader is one of the big names in social media downloaders. It supports various social media sites and you can download videos in various formats. You can even MP3 if you only want audio without video. It also works for images if you need it. You can use this for TikTok, Instagram, Facebook, Vimeo and other sites. The premium version is quite expensive at $11.99. However, it is one of the few social media downloaders with a premium version where you can remove ads permanently.

PhotoSnatch

Price: Free / Up to $4.99

Photo Snatch is a bit of a wildcard on this list. It’s one of the newer social media downloaders and just came out in March 2021. It offers support for TikTok and Instagram. It should also work on most websites with an embedded video player. The app includes most of the usual stuff, including a video player, no watermark, and separate galleries to view your images and video content. It can also detect and remove duplicate files if necessary. It’s newer so it has bugs, but seems pretty good compared to most.

Tmate is one of the most popular options for downloading TikTok videos. It doesn’t require login, actually helps you download videos, and claims to have no watermark. In our testing, all of those things appeared to be true, though long-term use is debatable. The function is quite easy to use. You share the TikTok video to the app and it downloads the video for you. You can then watch it in your preferred video player. There are ads in the app as expected. However, they don’t seem overly intrusive, and are a lot lighter in touch than the others.

Tweet2gif is one of the most popular tools for downloading GIFs from Twitter. Twitter is notorious for not letting you download them for ridiculous reasons and this tool makes it easy. All you need to do is share the tweet link to the app and the app parses it and returns a GIF. You download the GIF as an MP4 or as a looped animated GIF. This app works as intended. There are bots on Twitter that can do the same thing, but the app is easier.

Basically any screen recorder or screenshot app

Price: Free / Varies

AZ Screen Recorder 2020 screenshot

There is a manual method that doesn’t require any social media downloader at all. Basically, any screen recorder is useful for capturing video content and any screen capture function can capture images. This isn’t the highest quality method of doing it and requires a bit of setup, but it works 100% of the time. We have the AZ Screen Recorder linked on the button, but most modern Android phones have a built-in screen recorder function. We also have a list of screen recorder apps as well as screenshot apps if you want to try something else. Again, it’s a little funky, but it always works as long as you don’t mind on-screen elements for things like TikTok.

Many, many website downloaders

Here’s the problem. You don’t really need an app for much of this stuff. There are download websites for all forms of content, including Instagram photos, Facebook videos, and even things like YouTube videos. There are so many that we won’t list them here, but you can easily find them via Google Search. Websites have the inherent benefit of not being apps so you don’t have to worry about anything going on on your phone. Plus, it’s more convenient for people who don’t download stuff very often if they need a one-time download. Sites are usually free with lots of ads, but most of them usually work.
