On my last visit to Florida, I made more changes to the living room. When we bought the house it came with furniture that wasn’t really my style, so I sold the couch and donated the old media tower to start a new one.
The style I’m going for is mid-century modern coastal meets. I wanted it bright and sunny, filled with comfortable furniture, plants, and art from my travels. My goal is to put together comfortable spaces on a budget!
Below are old photos of the real estate listing, you can see the large leather lounge sofas and old fashioned media center I started.
I sold a couch to a local for a lounge he had set up for his teenage son. To replace it, I purchased a mid-century-style sofa and loveseat in white leather from IKEA, source below.
All plants are fake because we don’t stay at home all the time. I sourced them from Michaels, Target, and Home Goods. When I find a good fake, I buy it!
I searched for a long credenza for the TV wall and hesitated for weeks. I was thinking of an upscale version or an IKEA hack but when I came across this rattan wicker TV stand and I thought I would combine the two to get the look I wanted. The dimensions are perfect, with two dimensions going the full length of the wall span.
The only complication is I don’t want the two black metal bases next to each other because that would look like… two store-bought media stands pushed side by side. 🙂
So I came up with an alternative plan. After I assembled it, I added mid-century style sofa legs to the base (white spray paint) to give the credenza a few inches taller and a taller look.
The beach and palm artwork is all from my printer, all in black and white, see resources below.
Here’s another budget hack! I covered one of the white end tables that came with the house with leatherette wallpaper and grass sticks to give it a beachy look.
When we entertained here for Thanksgiving, I changed things up a bit. Here’s a glimpse of a space with just a few festive holiday accents.
In 2023 I will make two more changes. We replaced the flooring so the carpet would go away and instead the luxury vinyl siding throughout the house. I also need to replace the existing vertical blinds with blinds on the track system. Meanwhile, I’m happy with this comfortably furnished space I created on a budget!
