This app can turn Apple’s top-of-the-line wearable into a complete dive computer for recreational divers.
To start, in the dive planner, you can set surface, depth and gas time. The application will calculate the time without decompression, the time limit for the diver at a certain depth. It also makes use of information such as diving conditions such as tides, water temperature, and information from the public including visibility and currents.
After a dive, you will automatically see your GPS entry and exit locations along with a summary of the device profile on the watch screen. On the iPhone version, you can also view maps of entry and exit locations and other data such as graphs of depth and rate of temperature rise. That data can also be shared with others.
When diving, haptic feedback can provide different notifications, even through a thick wetsuit.
Apple Watch Ultra is WR100 and EN 13319 certified, the internationally recognized standards for diving accessories, including depth gauges. You can also customize the Apple Watch Ultra’s Action button to launch the Oceanic+ predive screen. When underwater, the Action button will mark the compass bearing.
There are also a number of watch face complications you can add from the app. Some of these include no-fly times, quick access to dive planners and dive settings.
You can download the Oceanic+ app now in the App Store for free. You need an Apple Watch Ultra and an iPhone 8 or later.
The basic version offers a number of common device functions including depth and time along with logging of recent dives.
For access to more advanced features including decompression tracking, network loading, location planner, and unlimited notebook capacity, you will need a subscription. That’s $9.99 per month or $79.99 per year.
There is also a Family Sharing option for $129 per year. That allows the full app to be used by up to five people.
