Coastal Living Room | Centsational Style

Don’t you love starting the new year with a fresh and clean space? I was finally able to put the finishing touches on our living room on my last visit. I find myself getting attracted to minimalist spaces with limited décor, I feel like I can think more clearly, is it just me?

We are fortunate to have a one-story house in an older neighborhood just minutes from the beautiful shoreline and Key Bay. We fell in love with Sarasota when we visited last year. It’s the white sand beaches, gentle ocean waves, colorful sunsets, easy-going life and art scene that makes us want to move there. Our plan is to make the full-time jump from California to Florida at the end of next year after our son finishes high school.

This room is the first thing you see when you enter the house, so my intention was to create a light, bright space for guests or family to relax in. It’s certainly coastal-inspired with light wood tones, soft textures, and minimal décor. The faux fig leaves and rug were from Target, and the tropical silk plants around the corner I found at Home Goods. The chairs and coffee table are from Wayfair and the sofa is from West Elm. Below are some snapshots of the space.

This coral-inspired bowl I sculpted myself, the white finish inspired by white sand beaches in Florida. This is a point of interest for shells I picked up on a walk along the beach. 🙂

As attractive as that sofa is, I have already arranged to return it. The quality of customer service from a West Elm rep was the worst I’ve experienced in my 10+ years of decorating spaces. Their customer service department made a lot of misrepresentations over the past 2½ months. Their corporate furniture side has lost all my credibility and business. My intention is to find a replacement couch, so I’ll be sure to share updated photos of this space.

If you want the source let me know and I’ll update in the comments! Oh and if you want a glimpse of what this room looked like when we bought the house, check out this post, it’s a room with dark blue walls. 🙂
